Plasma membrane was isolated and purified from both leaves of control and susceptible plants with method of polyethylene glycol/dextrin two-phase partition system. The major fatty acids of plasma membrane were identified as palmitic acid (16 : 0), linoleic acid (18 : 2) and linolenic acid (18 : 3). The ratios of unsaturated fatty acids to saturated fatty acids were reduced in copper-treated plants. The productions of lipid peroxides and nonprotein thiol-containing compound were obviously enhanced in copper-treated plants. Copper also caused the increment in chlorophyll content and total amounts of carotenoids in young leaves. %M doi:10.6165/tai.1999.44(2).259
