This species resembles Afrohybanthus enneaspermus (L.) Flicker and Afrohybanthus indicus S.K.Kamble & B.J.Patil in having an unbranched, prominent, trigonus and glabrous stem, serrulate leaf margin, sepals with hairy, greenish-red midvein, globose-hirsute ovary and ellipsoidal seeds.
