This lake is unique for the study of the succession of Chamaecyparis, one of the most important woods in Taiwan, which grows well in the area surrounding this lake. The pollen of fifty taxa belonging to thirty families collected from this nature preserve were investigated under light and scanning electron microscopes and described in the present study. A total of 11 pollen classes grouped on the basis of the aperture on the pollen wall were obtained: saccate, leptomatal, 3-6 porate, pantoporate, spiraperturate, fenestrate, 3-colpate, 4-7 colpate, 3-colporate, heterocolpate, and tetrad with monads 3-colporate pollen. The present data provide a basis for further study on changes in the environment of the terrestrial vegetation surrounding the Yuenyang Lake. DO -10.6165/tai.1999.44(1).82
