AB -New taxonomic data for the genus <i>Carex</i> (Cyperaceae) in Taiwan are presented based on field and herbarium investigations. Five new species, <i>C. chamaecyparicola, C. hsinchuensis, C. leongii, C. orthorhyncha</i> and <i>C. pseudorhynchachaenium</i>, and two reinstated species, <i>C. matsudae</i> and <i>C. mokkwaensis</i>, are proposed, accompanied by comprehensive morphological descriptions and color plates. The taxonomic affinities, systematic placements, chorology and ecology of these species are also briefly discussed.
