Abstract

Stipes of ferns are of considerable taxonomic interest. Based on the study of stipe characters a multiple choice key has been prepared for the Taiwan ferns. Characters used include the number and shape of vascular bundles, distribution of the sclerenchyma, the presence or absence of grooves, aeration structures and hairs or scales.
