Abstract

The relationship between the growth of branches and the subtending cones also between the number of female buds and growth vigor in Chamaecyparis formosensis and C. taiwanensis have been studied. The results indicated that the growth of the lateral branches was slightly reduced by the subtending cones, but the effect was not significant statistically. On the other hand, the number of female buds was negatively regressed on the length of the new shoots of the lateral branches. Seed production for the coming year cannot be forecasted on the basis of the cone crop of the previous year.
