Abstract

Forty-nine species of Taiwan Pteridaceae were examined for their leaf epidermal features. Some of these features are stable characters without location variation, and are very good in differentiating taxa, especially at generic level. All genera except Cheilanthes were supported by the present study data. Taiwan Cheilanthes may be better divided into four genera. Leaf epidermal features are also provide some clues of systematic relationships among several genera. Coniogramme and Pteris may be more close to each other than previously thought.
