Abstract

A new edaphic green alga, Oedocladium sahyadricum sp. nov was identified from a natural forest in Kerala, India. In the present study, the new species is described and compared with its related species. The primary distinguishing characteristics of O. sahyadricum include its dioecious and terrestrial nature, superior operculum, ellipsoid oogonium, and oospore. The study highlights the presence of Oedocladium in Kerala and emphasize the need for exploration of soil algae to further understand the diversity of this genus.
